WKNO 91.1 (Memphis) is the flagship station of the WKNO-FM stations. Originally broadcasting at 40,000 watts, WKNO 91.1 currently broadcasts at 100,000 watts. Since 1979, WKNO has been located on the South Campus of the University of Memphis. Construction of WKNO’s new Digital Media Center is currently underway. Broadcasting 24 hours a day/7 days a week, the weekday format of 91.1 is a mix of news and classical music. The weekend format consists of news, music and entertainment programming. We are members of NPR, Public Radio International (PRI) and American Public Media.
WKNP 90.1 (Jackson) simulcasts WKNO’s programming. A repeater station broadcasting at 17,000 watts, WKNP first went on-air in 1990. WKNP serves the Madison County area of West-Middle Tennessee.
WKNO-HD went on-air in November of 2007. WKNO-HD2 and WKNO-HD3 are available to listeners with an HD radio. WKNO-2 in HD at 91.1-2 features programs like Talk of the Nation and Fresh Air; plus new shows including Tell Me More, featuring NPR"s Michel Martin; Day to Day hosted by Alex Chadwick and Madeleine Brand; and This American Life hosted by Ira Glass. WKNO3 in HD at 91.1-3 serves the dedicated public radio news listener with around-the-clock BBC news coverage.
