It's Fair Food Time!

The Delta Fair & Music Festival

The best part of any fair? The food of course!

From September 4th to 13th, the Delta Fair & Music Festival will be in full-swing at the Agricenter in East Memphis.

“So at the Delta Fair we have somewhere around 50 foods stands and on average anywhere from 12 to 15 items per stand so you are looking at over 600 items at the Fair,” explains Brian Ellsworth, General Manager and Vice President of Sales & Operations.

With so many options, my one piece of advice for your visit … Forget your diet!

“We have a great assortment of classic fair foods like the Pronto Pups and funnel cakes, cotton candy, candied apples … all that good stuff.”

“So as far as non-classic, we have quite a bit of stuff from gator-on-a-stick to shrimp-on-a-stick, jambalaya, red velvet funnel cake that’s kinda a new item, anything deep-fried from Kool-Aid to Oreos. You name it they’ll fry it!”

I had to ask about the deep-fried Kool-Aid! Brian described it as more of a fried ball of Kool-aid. Kool-aid powder is mixed in a batter that when fried turns out like a cherry bright red doughnut!

As for fair favorites, “The most popular food item at the fair is definitely a debated thing. I would have to say it’s the Pronto Pup or funnel cake.”

And of course in fair tradition there are some cooking competitions to check out. “At the fair, we have quite a few culinary events from chili cook-offs, and cakes, brownies, those kind of things but our personal favorite is the Spam Cook-off, where you can make anything with Spam.”
