I could not agree more. But who are those people in your life you currently count as friends, and how do you define that friendship?
For me, it's the people that when I see them, my heart leaps up, and their presence immediately brings a smile to my face. Doesn't matter whether you see them every week, or can you go years without talking, yet things are still the same? For me, I do think true friendship requires some nurturing. You can't just put it on ice, and then years later, have it instantly be the same. Friendship requires stroking in order to be maintained. Why not, over the next couple of weeks, make a list of those people you consider to be friends, and then reach out to them in some way? Write them a letter, not a text, and tell them how you feel. Actually talk to them on the phone, or find a time for coffee. Few things are more valuable in life than friends. They're meant to be treasured.
