Thank a nurse today!

Church Health

In today’s world, the profession of nursing is rarely given the credit it deserves.

In truth, only 10% of our health outcomes have anything to do with what the doctor does or the technology we spend billions of dollars on. Quality nursing care, in all of its forms, matters as much and maybe more.

Florence Nightingale, the originally nurse theorist during the Crimean War in 1854, declared that 5 things mattered more to health outcomes than almost anything else. Pure and fresh air, pure water, efficient drainage, cleanliness, and direct sunlight. I would say her assessment still applies today.

Nursing care – from the hospital, to the clinic, to the home – impacts our lives when we are sick or troubled in profound ways that stay with us.

I know that in my own life, from the nurses I work with every day to nurses who have cared for me after surgery, nurses make life more comfortable and improve our health in significant ways.

I hope today you will thank a nurse in your life for the work done to nurture your health. Nurses play a critical role in any effective health care system. They have earned your thanks and praise.
