BTH: More Context to Recent Protests

This week on Channel 10’s Behind the Headlines Faith Morris, Chief Marketing and External Affairs Officer for the National Civil Rights Museum, and Archie Willis, President, ComCap Partners, discuss making sense of the protests in Memphis with host Eric Barnes and the Daily Memphian’s Bill Dries.

With the backdrop of protests and COVID-19 and the disproportionate impact on the African American community, questions were raised that included, “Why is being black in America like a death sentence?” Faith Morris pointed out that the protests were designed to bring attention to the issues. Archie Willis added that by drawing attention to the issues, it would also bring the realization of what tangible actions can be taken to create equality across the board.

Other topics discussed included systematic changes, the call to action and the value of mixed income communities.
