"Bluff City Law" Captures the City, But Does it Capture the Zeitgeist?

With much local fanfare, the first major network television series set and filmed in Memphis had its national debut Monday night. Bluff City Law (click here to watch) featured nearly every iconic location the city has to offer. The Commercial Appeal's film and features reporter John Beifuss has been following the production since the pilot was shot here in April.

Beifuss says that though critical reception has so far been mixed, the story of an underdog law firm specializing in civil rights-style litigation may speak more to our current political leanings if not, so much, to our artistic expectations.

Reporting from the gates of Graceland to the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, Christopher has covered Memphis news, arts, culture and politics for more than 20 years in print and on the radio. He is currently WKNO's News Director and Senior Producer at the University of Memphis' Institute for Public Service Reporting. Join his conversations about the Memphis arts scene on the WKNO Culture Desk Facebook page.
