BTH: Le Bonheur's New Approach to Preventative Care

Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital is taking a new hands-on approach to educating families about preventive care.

This week on WKNO-TV Channel 10’s Behind the Headlines, host Eric Barnes and Daily Memphian reporter Bill Dries are joined by Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital President and CEO Meri Armour and Le Bonheur's Pediatrician-in-Chief Dr. Jon McCullers to discuss the “Family Resilience Initiative.”

Dr. McCullers created the “Family Resilience Initiative,” a program to address “ACEs,” which are traumas and social determinants of health, such as food insecurity and domestic violence. Dr. Culler says that identifying ACEs is crucial to understanding how to prevent permanent mental and physical health damage at an early age.

Armour says that staff members will identify ACEs, then connect patients' families to the needed resources, whether transportation or even legal help. The program does not end there, Armour explains how the “Family Resilience Initiative” further impacts the children it serves.
