BTH: MLGW President and CEO on Rate Increases, TVA and more.

This week, the Memphis City Council granted Memphis Light, Gas and Water a three percent rate increase on water, but denied proposed increases for electricity and gas.

MLGW President and CEO J.T. Young joins WKNO TV’s Behind the Headlines with host Eric Barnes and Daily Memphian reporter Bill Dries. Young explains why MLGW needs the increases, saying there are issues with equipment and infrastructure already in place. In the past, items were replaced as needed, but Young argues that things need to be "fixed before they break.”

Dries asks Young about MLGW’s consideration of other power providers outside the Tennessee Valley Authority. Finding other cost-effective resources, Young says, is not that simple. Young explains that the process can take a long time as MLGW considers all possible options available before committing to anything.
