Mike Davis helps explain how we might change the one billion people live in fetid conditions, including 80% of those urbanites in the underdeveloped world according to the United Nations.
Maverick scholar Mike Davis is an urban theorist and historian whose many books range from analyses of Los Angeles as the model of what he terms “fortress cities” to the history of the car bomb. Mike Davis will be coming to Memphis on October 8th, 2015 to give a public lecture at Rhodes College at 7pm about his book Planet of Slums.
Davis discusses how mega-spectacles that we love to watch, like the Olympics and World Cup soccer tournaments, have dreadful consequences for those living in slums, racial and social inequality, and how police impact the lives of urbanites who live in these slums.
