New Stephen Yusko Exhibition at the Metal Museum

Stephen Yusko

The new "Tributaries" exhibition at the Metal Museum features the work of Stephen Yusko.

Stephen Yusko, a former Metal Museum apprentice, is particularly drawn to steel as a material and his work explores the industrial history and building techniques of steel. His sculptures reference bridges, roadways and buildings. This exhibition showcases his newest body of work. Stephen has taught as Haystack School of Crafts, Penland School of Crafts and Webster University, Webster Grove, MO and has won multiple awards and recognitions. Stephen received his BFA from the University of Akron, OH and his MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He currently lives and works in Cleveland, OH.

In this interview, Steve discusses the origins of these works, the techniques and materials he works with, and how the pieces reflect the idea of "home." Houston Cofield from the Metal Museum discusses the events this weekend, including International Blacksmithing Day demonstrations on Saturday May 29th, and a Gallery Talk and Reception for Stephen's show on Sunday.

I began piano lessons at age 6, trumpet at age 9, and began teaching myself the guitar at 10. My electronics knowledge comes from my father, who had the RCA television and stereo shop in my hometown of Pocahontas, Arkansas for nearly 20 years. My dad is still fixing televisions at age 79.
