Sweet Holiday Treats

Bluff City Toffee

The way to a person's heart is most definitely through their stomach.

Anyone who loves to eat (and who doesn't?) will appreciate a thoughtful gift of a sweet treat.

Whether it’s caramels, dessert toppings, candies or jams, there is a Memphis-made treat that will make the perfect edible Christmas gift.

Here are four of my favorite locally made food gifts to give … and receive.

The first on my list is Shirley Ann’s Sweets Chocolate Dipped Cordial Cherries.

Stephanie Taylor and Sherry Creasman first started making chocolate dipped cherries to give as Christmas gifts. The duo make a one-of-a-kind confection that is not only pretty but super yummy.

Backhouse Foods makes a line of four dessert sauces that are divine.  Loren Powell began her business literally out of her back house, hence the name of her growing business that started with her great-grandmother Nana’s hot fudge sauce.

Bluff City Toffee began out of the home kitchen of Stephanie Upshaw. She has been making her milk chocolate pecan toffee for holiday gifts for over 25 years. For the holidays this year, she added a second flavor, Dark Chocolate Pecan Toffee with Sea Salt.

A pound cake is another perfect gift for the holidays – especially if it’s a Judy Pound Cake. Judy Douglass has perfected the pound cake. She has been baking her pound cakes her whole life, using her mother’s recipe. Judy has 11 different flavors in her pound cake line, ranging from cinnamon pecan to raspberry almond.
