Memphis, TN – In 1888, the Cossitt Branch Library became the first public library of Memphis. It was known at the time as the Cossitt-Goodwyn Institute. Located in Downtown Memphis prominently on the corner of Front and Monroe, it also housed Memphis' first museum collection.
