Last week, Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer announced she would be joining three other candidates running for Memphis mayor this year. Elected to office last August, she represents to some the voice of people under 40, a.k.a. millennials.

Political analyst Otis Sanford says that while there has been a surge of novice politicians (Donald Trump set the stage for that) running for important offices, many Memphis voters have been pleased with current Mayor Jim Strickland and that he remains the strongest candidate of the four, who also include Lemichael Wilson and former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.
