A Stout Recipe Addition

St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend -  and instead of celebrating with green tinted beer - use Guinness Stout to add an Irish flair to your table.

Here are five ways to use this rich, dark beer in a recipe:

Braised Short Ribs

Braising short ribs in beer makes them super tender and adds a slight bitter note.  Use the Guinness in place of the wine you would normally use when braising your short ribs.

Beer Glazed Chicken Wings

Make a slightly bitter, not-too-sweet sticky glaze for your chicken wings by simmering together a bottle of Guinness, ½ cup maple syrup, and ¼ cup red wine vinegar.

Hot Beer Cheese Dip

Adding beer to cheese dip gives it character and depth of flavor.  Throw a ½ cup of Guinness, 12 ounces cream cheese, and 4 cups of shredded cheddar in a slow cooker and cook on low until melted and creamy. Serve with tortilla chips or pretzels.

Fried Fish

The trick to a light and crunchy batter is to use a bubbly, carbonated beverage.  Instead of soda water or a pale ale, use Guinness. It’s also great for making fried onion rings!

Guinness Chocolate Cake

Guinness beer can take a rich chocolate dessert to a whole new level. When added to a chocolate cake batter, the result is an extremely moist cake with a distinct, yet slight, beery tang.  Top it with icing flavored with Bailey’s Irish Cream – and you have a hit on your hands!

And of course, you can always just enjoy a cold, frothy mug of this Irish elixir to toast the day!
