Be here now or keeping my head in the room when the troubles I am facing or the joys I am anticipating are constantly drawing me to somewhere else is the only way that I can be fully engaged in life. Nothing helpful happens if I am ruminating on the past or anxious about what might happen tomorrow. Anticipatory dread about what the future may hold is all too common and never helpful. The same is true if I am unable to move past an experience where I have been wronged, even if I was right, there's nothing I can do about it today. Living in the moment is the only way I know to make joy and love be integrated into my daily existence. Right now truly is all that any of us has and we are foolish to squander it or not give this moment our full, unwavering attention. I know it sounds simple, but it takes discipline and determination, but in the end, it is worth it. This is Dr. Scott Morris for Church Health.
