Be Here Now

...is one of the most important concepts I have ever learned, but it isn't easy.

Be here now or keeping my head in the room when the troubles I am facing or the joys I am anticipating are constantly drawing me to somewhere else is the only way that I can be fully engaged in life. Nothing helpful happens if I am ruminating on the past or anxious about what might happen tomorrow. Anticipatory dread about what the future may hold is all too common and never helpful. The same is true if I am unable to move past an experience where I have been wronged, even if I was right, there's nothing I can do about it today. Living in the moment is the only way I know to make joy and love be integrated into my daily existence. Right now truly is all that any of us has and we are foolish to squander it or not give this moment our full, unwavering attention. I know it sounds simple, but it takes discipline and determination, but in the end, it is worth it. This is Dr. Scott Morris for Church Health.

Dr. G. Scott Morris, M.D., M.Div, is founder and CEO of Church Health, which opened in 1987 to provide quality, affordable health care for working, uninsured or underserved people and their families. In FY2021, Church Health had over 61,300 patient visits. Dr. Morris has an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, a Master of Divinity degree from Yale University, and M.D. from Emory University. He is a board-certified family practice physician and an ordained United Methodist minister.
