BTH: Shelby County Sheriff on Crime and Policing

BTH1214.jpeg

On this week's Behind the Headlines, Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner Jr. says local court systems have enacted a multitude of measures to protect prisoners and staff safe in local correctional facilities from COVID-19.

Bonner says that the prisons offer Johnson & Johnson vaccines every Thursday. While the vaccine is not mandated, Bonner says that they provide inmates with incentives, like money and pizza parties.

Bonner joins host Eric Barnes and Daily Memphian reporter Bill Dries to discuss how COVID-19 has changed the operations of Shelby County's police and court systems.

In addition, Bonner talks about juvenile crime, as well as the possibility of resuming U.S. Department of Justice oversight.
