The Unified School Board has decided to not renew the contract of Memphis City School Superintendent Kriner Cash, whose contract runs out in August of 2013, about the time when the school merger will actually start.
The board also voted-down a motion to do a “non-renewal” of Shelby County School Superintendent John Aitken's contract, which runs through the first two years of the merger - through August of 2015.
Also, Memphis City Councilman Edmund Ford, Jr., asked his committee for a one-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax to help pay for the Memphis Area Transit Authority. The full council will decide in the next few weeks about whether or not to put the question to voters.
Finally, the Shelby County Commission discussed funding for available organs for donations at Methodist Hospital after potential Federal cuts.
