For some Tennessee voters, it’s been another unnecessarily negative campaign season, with some lackluster candidates. Yet even the disgruntled often turn out at the polls, as civic duty can outweigh the distaste for the process.

The sense of duty is a phenomenon that political scientists rank higher than many other factors in getting people to the polls — listen above to Tennessee voters, in their own words.
