What I know doesn't work is beating people over the head with all the reasons they should join your cause. People do things because they believe that action is in their best interest. Badgering them is unlikely for them to have an aha moment and say, "Scott, I now realize that you were always right. How could I have been so dumb as to disagree?"
What I do believe works is loving people into your cause, showing them that by joining your team, they will experience a better outcome and have a more positive experience. What is critical is that the offer for love is sincere and consistent. I'm not going to say this always works. I have had many times when I am so far apart from someone that they will continue to choose a different path. But if I stay the course of how I offer love, I will take my chances. This is Dr. Scott Morris for Church Health.
