Maybe we should focus on the things we should have been caring about all along. Who are the 10 people in your life who matter most to you? Call them this week and see how they're doing. Ask yourself specifically what you can do to make their lives better. Don't wait for them to ask you, just do it. Do you know the names of everyone who lives on your block? Take the initiative and set a time for everyone to meet outside to talk about the neighborhood. If you don't do it, who will? Ask yourself, what do I really care about in this life? Write it down and then ask, am I doing all I can to nurture those things I care the most about?
A lot of mean things have been said recently in the political world, make a pledge to yourself not to be a part of that going forward. My wife, Mary, taught me that life is too short to take the ugly way home. That applies not just to driving in the car, but to how we live our lives every day, no matter who won the election.
