Freedom is built on daily sacrifice, and remembering that is part of being fully alive. For me, this day reaches close to home. My father fought in the Korean War. His plane was shot down over North Korea and he was rescued by the Marines. He's still alive. And my two brothers each rose to the rank of Navy captain. Their lives have taught me that service isn't only about battle. It's about courage, duty, and love for people you may never meet.
As a doctor, I've cared for veterans who now have no health insurance, whose battles didn't end when they came home. Their scars are sometimes seen, often not, yet their dignity remains, and it calls us to a deeper kind of gratitude, one that shows itself in compassion and care. So this day after Veterans Day, let's still be grateful. Let's honor those who serve, not just with flags and parades, but with listening ears, open hearts, and hands that heal, because life matters and so do those who gave so much to protect it. This is Dr. Scott Morris for Church Health.
Honor them every day
