The river keeps moving, of course, Beale Street still hums, but for a moment the city softens. This is a city that knows how to sing. On Christmas Eve, that matters. Songs rise from sanctuaries and living rooms, from radios and memories reminding us of who we have been and who we still hope to be.
The Christmas story is joyful, not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because love shows up anyway. A child is born, hope takes flesh, and the world has changed quietly from the inside out. In Memphis, that looks familiar. It looks like generosity, like neighbors sharing what they have, like people who keep believing that kindness can still carry us through.
On this Christmas Eve, may you feel that joy, not loud or perfect, but deep and steady. May it remind you that you belong to one another and to a story larger than your fears. From the city we love, may peace find you, may joy surprise you, and may Christmas meet you right where you are.
Merry Christmas. This is Dr. Scott Morris, for Church Health.
