And yet, we must remember that a government isn't the same as its people.
The people of Iran, mothers and fathers, students, shopkeepers, children aren't our enemies. Many have themselves suffered under repression. Many desire peace, opportunity, and dignity, just as we do here in Memphis. We can hold two truths at once: a clear-eyed understanding of danger, and a compassionate heart for those caught in its wake.
Let us pray not only for the safety of Americans, but also for the innocent families in Iran, who will bear the weight of this conflict. May God's love rule the day, stronger than hatred, wiser than vengeance, and powerful enough to bring peace where violence now reigns. Because life, every life, matters.
