The 5th Annual Great Wine Performances Set for Tuesday at Playhouse on the Square

Playhouse on the Square presents The 5th Annual Great Wine Performances Tuesday, August 21 from 6 to 8pm. The fundraiser is part wine tasting and part theatre trivia contest.

Ten wine stations are set up throughout the theatre and characters from various shows perform a description of the wines being sampled.  Guests must guess the shows the characters are from to win one of 50 available prizes.  This year's theme is "Shows That Require an Explicit Theatre Advisory."

Tickets for the fundraiser are $50 in advance ot $65 at the door.  Guests have the opportunity to win prizes worth more than the cost of admission.  Guests can also purchase clues for a nominal fee if they have trouble answering the clues correctly.  Complimentary hors d-oeuvres will be served throughout the night.

I talked to Courtney Oliver, Director of Special Events at Playhouse on the Square.  She told me how this unique fundraiser has grown a following over the years, how she came up with the theme for this year's event, and why bringing a smartphone could work to the guest's advantage.

I owe my radio career to the Ford Motor Company. My daddy had a Ford dealership in our hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and he thought it would be cute if his 7-year old daughter did his radio commercials. The pay wasn't great, just a pack of Wrigley's gum, but I was hooked on radio from then on.
