"Faulkner's World" at Memphis Cotton Museum

Martin Dain

Opening Thursday May 28th at the Cotton Museum at the Memphis Cotton Exchange is "Faulkner's World," an exhibit of photos by Martin Dain.

These 30 large-format photographs were taken in and around Oxford, Mississippi in the last two year's of Faulkner's life, 1961 and 1962. They beautifully document the landscapes and people that populate his novels. In this interview, Cotton Museum Special Exhibitions Curator Melissa Farris and Intern Tommy Wilson discuss the history of the images, the relationship between Martin Dain and Faulkner and the value of having a resource that so perfectly captures a time and place.

The opening "mint-julep" reception is Thursday, May 28, from 6 to 8 pm. The Cotton Museum is located in the Memphis Cotton Exchange, at the Corner of Union Avenue and Front Street. For more information, memphiscottonmuseum.org.

I began piano lessons at age 6, trumpet at age 9, and began teaching myself the guitar at 10. My electronics knowledge comes from my father, who had the RCA television and stereo shop in my hometown of Pocahontas, Arkansas for nearly 20 years. My dad is still fixing televisions at age 79.
