Change Requires Preparation, by John Malmo
Memphis, TN – You and I are both aware of what's been going-on in airport screening lines. We know of the cases of the poor guy who had his prosthetic urine bladder popped. The lady whose breast prosthesis was man-handled. And we know the problem isn't that we don't want secure flights. Or that we're unwilling to accept inconvenience, even some level of embarrassment, for our security.
For instance, 81% of frequent business travelers polled said they approve. What makes no sense, though, is what an abysmal job of training the TSA did before instituting the new tactics. McDonald's employes 1.5 million people in 31 thousand restaurants around the world. When McDonald's introduces a new sandwich, I assure you that by the second day, things go without a hitch. McDonald's would train each employee in each store to know exactly what to do.
By comparison, the TSA operates new body scanners in only 75 U.S. airports. If McDonald's operated those scanners and other security tactics, I believe that every employee would have been trained to know every type of prosthesis or other medical appurtenance. It's simply a matter of through anticipate, forethought, and training.
Take that to heart in your own business.
