Beneath us lies the Memphis Sand Aquifer, a marvel of nature containing 100 trillion gallons of the purest drinking water in the world, the Mississippi River carries 4.5 million cubic feet of water per second, and above us, we receive an average of 54 inches of rain a year, double the national average. Contrast that with LA, where scarcity is an ever-present challenge, only 15 inches of rain a year, no rain at all since last Easter. In Memphis, the aquifer provides 200 million gallons a day. How should we approach this stark contrast? Here are two ways. First is gratitude. We must be thankful for this precious gift. And second is stewardship. We use an average of 100 gallons per person per day, don't waste it. We must commit to preserve this resource for generations to come, treasure it. This is Dr. Scott Morris for Church Health.
A Blessing and a Responsibility
