Memphis, TN – Benton and Humphreys have been added to the list of Tennessee counties declared federal disaster areas after severe storms pelted the state last weekend. Twenty-even counties are on that list, including 18 in West Tennessee.

Across the state 20 people have died, including one man in Raleigh and one man in Madison County. Damage estimates in Shelby County alone top $40 million. People have lost homes and people have lost businesses. The designation of federal disaster area means federal money is available. Before calling The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, for help you should have a few things at your fingertips.

1. The address of the damaged home or apartment.

2. The names of the people who live there.

3. A description of the disaster damages.

4. Insurance information, if you have insurance.

5. The Social Security Number of the person calling.

6. A telephone number and an address where you can be reached.

Then call 1-800-621-FEMA, or visit their website.
