Memphis, TN – A poll of likely voters this week shows Republican nominee Bill Haslam with a commanding lead over his opponent Democratic nominee Mike McWherter in the race for Tennessee governor.
Fifty-six percent of likely voters say they'll vote for the Knoxville mayor while only 31 percent say they'll vote for McWherter. McWherter also lags behind his opponent in party support. Eighty-nine percent of the likely Republican voters favor their candidate while 76 percent of the likely Democratic voters favor McWherter.
In June, Rasmussen Reports showed all three GOP gubernatorial candidates ahead of McWherter. McWherter won the Democratic nomination on August 5. He was unopposed. Haslam one 47 percent of the Republican vote. Chattanooga Congressman Zach Wamp and Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey split the conservative vote.
Pulse Opinion Research surveyed 500 likely voters across the state Monday, August 9th, just days after the primary elections. Three percent say they'd vote for some other candidate, and 10 percent are undecided. Election day is November 2.
