Memphis, TN – In the U.S., about half of the people living with HIV or AIDS are black. Even so, HIV has long been a taboo subject among black pastors. Prevention activists in Memphis have struggled to make inroads for their message in black churches, often with scant success. Yet 24-year-old Marvell Terry single-handedly managed to discuss HIV with six pastors and six congregations in South Memphis. He told Eleanor Boudreau how he did it.
To further his work, Marvell Terry started the Red Door Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to HIV prevention. It's having its launch reception Friday from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel downtown. The event is free.
