Memphis, TN – The seat in Congress held by retiring John Tanner has officially flipped party control. Long-time state Senator Democrat Roy Herron conceded to Republican--and political novice--Stephen Fincher in Tennessee's 8th District. Tanner, a Democrat, held the seat for more than 20 years, but in 2006 the district voted for Republican John McCain. Vanderbilt Political Science Professor Bruce Oppenheimer said this marks a big change nationally to an increasing hyper-partisan political landscape.
