Memphis, TN – On Monday, the Memphis City Schools board surrendered its charter, dissolving the school district. Then on Wednesday, the board's attorneys sent a letter to the election commission asking for a city-wide referendum within 45 to 60 days. Now the clock is ticking, and Memphis Daily News Senior Reporter Bill Dries tells Candice Ludlow city voters may get to vote within weeks, not months, on whether to consolidate the county and city school systems.
