Memphis, TN – Drum roll, please! March 8th!

Shelby County Election Commission Chairman Bill Giannini and the rest of the commissioners set that date this afternoon.

Early voting starts February 16th and lasts through March 3rd. The Memphis City Schools referendum coincides with the special election to replace late state house representative Ulysses Jones. This way Memphians will save $50,000 on the referendum, the state will pay.

The election commission had refused to set a date for the school referendum because of a letter from the state election coordinator. They were sued and the coordinator revised his opinion. Lawyers for both sides announced a compromise in Chancery Court last week.
