Don Nix Reflects on Life in Memphis Music

In his new memoir, Memphis Man: Living High, Laying Low, musician and producer Don Nix opens up about his life, his A-list friends and his music.

Nix's new book is published by Sartoris Literary Group.

Nix's musical career began in high school, playing with a group of friends who would become the Mar-Keys, the first studio band of Stax Records. Their hit song "Last Night" -- in an R&B style -- would send them touring to bars and music halls throughout the South, often playing to black audiences who were unaware of the band's race.

Nix would later produce albums for bluesmen such as Freddie King and Albert King. In Memphis, he befriended Furry Lewis, who often relied on Nix to get by.

Nix will sign copies of his book at 6 tonight (Dec. 17, 2015) at the Stax Museum. There will also be live music. The event is free.
