Ear Care

Our bodies are blessed with 5 senses which allow us to experience and appreciate the world in which we live – Touch, Sight, Smell, Taste and Hearing.

Those listening to this segment are using the precious ability to hear, and taking care of our ears is important to maintain good hearing, though often taken for granted!

Your ears have a natural cleaning mechanism called earwax. Using cotton swabs or objects to remove it can result in damage to the ear, infection or hearing loss, so instead use a washcloth or tissue to wipe the outer ear.

A new onset of ear pain, drainage, decreased hearing or ringing can often signal a medical problem best quickly evaluated by your medical provider.

One in eight of us have noise-induced hearing loss from loud work or leisure environments, but the use of earplugs or noise-canceling headphones can preserve good hearing. Limiting the time and sound volume from earbuds, headphones and loud events can preserve our ability to hear for a lifetime – it just makes sense!

I’m Dr David Jennings with Church Health.
