Special Report -- The Waiting Decade: Rape Victims Still Seek Justice

Karen Pulfer Focht

In 2010, the discovery of untested rape kits at the Memphis Police Department was just the first revelation in a much bigger crisis: evidence in thousands of cases dating back decades had been destroyed, misplaced or neglected.

In this special audio report, Debby Dalhoff seeks to identify the man who raped her and her roommate in 1986. But as investigative reporter Marc Perrusquia learned, many victims of the so-called "testing backlog" are still waiting for answers.

This half-hour radio program is a collaboration between the Institute for Public Service Reporting at the University of Memphis and WKNO-FM.

Award-winning freelance photojournalist Karen Pulfer Focht covered this story for a 3-part print version. The complete series of photos and additional video can be seen on her blog. Click here for more.
