Among Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee's promised changes to state education policy has been the promotion of education savings accounts, better known as vouchers. This would allow parents of students in struggling schools to get an average of $7,300 annually to enroll in a private school or cover the costs of homeschooling.
Political analyst Otis Sanford believes it has a greater likelihood of passing if, as promised, public schools don't lose equivalent funding as a result of students migrating to the private sector on the taxpayer dime.
This week, Sanford also discusses other educational initiatives, such as Pre-K in Shelby County. New leadership, he says, will likely ensure that it becomes widely available in the future.
