BTH: Mayor Jim Strickland Says Election "Comes Down to Results, Not Rhetoric"

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland joins this week's Behind the Headlines on WKNO-TV and explains that the October election “comes down to results, not rhetoric.”

While opponents have questioned his positions on race and gender, Strickland responds that more women are now in local government positions and he believes his record shows that he tries to serve everyone equally.

Early voting for the municipal election starts Sept. 13.

Strickland says he'll continue to increase the number of Memphis Police officers, adding that it’s important to do so in order to reduce the local crime rate.

The incumbent mayor also supports incentives and tax breaks for businesses that promise economic growth for the city and more jobs.

Wrapping up, Strickland discusses funding for Shelby County Schools and Univeral Pre-K programs, as well as the redevelopment debate between Tom Lee Park and Memphis in May.
