In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Shelby County Schools (SCS) has extended its spring break to prevent further spread of the virus. Founder and CEO of Frayser Community Schools, Dr. Bobby White, says that the three Frayser Community Schools (Martin Luther King College Prep, Humm. Middle School, and West Side Middle School) will mirror the discussions made by SCS.
This week on WKNO-TV's Behind the Headlines, White and Shelby County Commissioner Michael Whaley join host Eric Barnes and Daily Memphian reporter Bill Dries. White adds that the Frayser Community Schools are aware that many students rely on the schools for meals. However, there is no definite plan to provide lunch access for students.
Guests also discuss charter schools and misconceptions about them. Whaley says that charter schools can pick their curriculum, making them more flexible. However, they have the same accountability as county schools.
Wrapping up, guests discuss Achievement School Districts and the proposal for a new Frayser High School.
