BTH: The Future of Memphis' Parks

The COVID-19 pandemic increased the number of people visiting parks and outdoor recreational areas nationally. Here in Memphis,  the Director of Parks and Neighborhoods for the City of Memphis, Nick Walker, says that if you look back at other pandemics, outdoor areas tend to get a boost in visitors. The increase in people does not dwindle but generationally stays the same, Walker says.

Walker joins host Eric Barnes and Daily Memphian reporter Bill Dries for this week’s WKNO-TV Behind the Headlines. Walker discusses the future of Memphis’ parks, including a proposal for park rangers and repairs for deferred maintenance.

In addition, Walker talks about proposed changes to parks and recreational centers, like the Overton Park golf course.
