President Donald Trump wasted no time Tuesday night turning his first debate with former Vice President Joe Biden into a less-than-decorous meeting. His interruptions and overtalking caused moderator Chris Wallace to frequently chide him for not abiding by the established ground rules.
For political analyst Otis Sanford, the most concerning moment was when Trump was asked to repudiate white supremacy and he called for one group known as the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by," which the group promptly embraced as a call to action.
Sanford believes that only a small number of Republicans are turned off by Trump's overt racism, but those who are likely support him for other reasons, such as his success with installing conservative judges.
In the forthcoming Vice Presidential debate, Sanford says contender Kamala Harris will have to address the Trump Administration's inability to condemn white supremacy, regardless of the topics on the agenda.
