BTH: DA Weirich on Guns in Cars and Violent Crime Rate

In 2014, Tennessee lawmakers made it legal for people to carry loaded firearms in their cars without permits. Previously, unpermitted carriers had to keep their weapons at home. Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich believes this has contributed to an increase in car robberies and also the recent spate of highway "road rage" shootings.

Weirich joins host Eric Barnes and Daily Memphian reporter Bill Dries for this week's WKNO-TV Behind the Headlines to discuss how the DA's office is handing this surge in violence.

In addition, Weirich talks about Shelby County’s juvenile crime rate and ways in which her office is trying to decrease the number of juvenile repeat offenders. Wrapping up, she says her office has changed how they convict suspended or revoked licenses, and shares thoughts about police body and sky cameras.
