Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn says the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump is nothing more than political theater.

The Middle Tennessee Republican took to the Senate floor a day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the probe would go forward.

Blackburn says Tennesseans who called into a tele-town hall see it the same way.

"They see this for what it is: vitriol, anger, jealousy, spite," Blackburn said. "They know that President Trump and a Republican-led House and Senate delivered much-needed tax and regulatory relief."

Blackburn went on to say that Democrats have been on a "mission toward impeachment" since before President Trump was sworn into office.

So far, both Democrats in Tennessee's congressional delegation have called for the president's impeachment. Rep. Steve Cohen has long been vocal about that position, while Jim Cooper changed his stance just hours before Speaker Pelosi's announcement.
