Health Officials: Listeria Outbreak Kills 13
A listeria outbreak linked to cantaloupes from Colorado has infected 72 people in the United States and killed 13, U.S. health officials said on Tuesday. The food-borne outbreak is the deadliest in the U.S. in more than a decade, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

California's New Prison Policy Has Some Skeptics
Starting in October, nonviolent offenders will go to county facilities instead of state prisons, partly in response to a court order to reduce the state's prison population. The global financial community has been looking to Europe to act decisively with its debt crisis. German political leaders praised the 523-85 parliamentary vote as a victory for Europe and an important step toward solving the sovereign debt crisis. But most economists say the bailout fund needs to be even larger and stronger.
