“The Role of Sport in Combating the Climate Change” event, is hosted by United Nations Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Global Communications, with remarks by the UN Deputy Secretary-General, the UNFCCC Sport for Climate Action Lead, and Nike’s Senior Director of Global Engagement for Sustainability. Also included are conversations with Olympic and Paralympic athletes, an elite yachtsman, and representatives of major global sporting groups - including both the Chief Strategy Officer of World Rugby and the Sustainability Director for the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar, moderated by NBC correspondent Tabitha Lipkin. The Permanent Representatives to the United Nations of the Principality of Monaco and the State of Qatar round off the programme in conversation on the role of government. The event is organized by the UN Department of Global Communications and Department of Economic and Social Affairs, with the support of the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations.
