Refuges in California's forests may protect vulnerable species.

For California, the last five years have been the hottest and driest in more than a century. As a result, the Carnegie Airborne Observatory was launched to monitor the health of every tree in every forest across the state. The project has identified areas of forest that are more resistant to drought and may serve as refuge for other species.
