The Arcade is Memphis' oldest restaurant, founded in 1919 by Speros Zepatos after he immigrated from Cephalonia, Greece to Memphis. Originally a wooden structure, the beloved eatery has stood the test of time.
In the 1950s, Speros’ son Harry Zepatos took over the Arcade and transformed it into the fifties-style diner it is today. Third generation owners Harry and Karan Zepatos ran the day-to-day operations of the Arcade for several years before turning over the business about two years ago to their son Jeff and his wife Kelcie.
Four generations of owners have preserved this family-owned gem, which Jeff and Kelcie hope will have a place in Memphis’ history for the next 100 years.
It’s beloved by hungry Memphians and visiting tourists alike. This Memphis institution has been featured in numerous TV shows and movies over the years. A trip to the Arcade offers not only a tasty breakfast or lunch, but also a step back into the history of Memphis. Take time to check out the vintage photos that line the walls for a fun history lesson.
The official celebration will be on August 24.
On that Saturday, the Zepatos will be lowering all their prices to $1.
“It’s 100 cents for 100 years of celebrating,” Kelcie explained.
The Arcade will donate the proceeds from that day’s sales to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The festivities will include live music, a DJ, a beer truck and popsicles.
The Zepatos family also plans to unveil a surprise remembrance of the Arcade’s history. This artifact will have a permanent home in the restaurant after it is revealed.
