Opera Memphis concludes its 2023-24 season with Giacomo Puccini's iconic La bohème on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center on The University of Memphis campus.

Darel Snodgrass talks with Opera Memphis' General Director Ned Canty about this long-postponed new production, the movement of the setting from 1830s Paris to 1915 Beale Street, and working with an all-Black cast, director, and conductor.

I began piano lessons at age 6, trumpet at age 9, and began teaching myself the guitar at 10. My electronics knowledge comes from my father, who had the RCA television and stereo shop in my hometown of Pocahontas, Arkansas for nearly 20 years. My dad is still fixing televisions at age 79.
