The Rake's Progress | Opera Memphis

In collaboration with the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, Opera Memphis' season continues with Igor Stravinsky's neoclassical opera "The Rake's Progress" at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 24, at 3:00 p.m.

Darel Snodgrass talks with Opera Memphis General Director Ned Canty, who is also the production's Stage Director.

Additionally, Canty discusses Stravinsky's setting of the libretto by British-American poet W. H. Auden. This performance centers around young Tom Rakewell's deal with the devil, from which Stravinsky drew inspiration from William Hogarth's satirical paintings.

The Rake's Progress

I began piano lessons at age 6, trumpet at age 9, and began teaching myself the guitar at 10. My electronics knowledge comes from my father, who had the RCA television and stereo shop in my hometown of Pocahontas, Arkansas for nearly 20 years. My dad is still fixing televisions at age 79.
