As Opera Memphis begins a new season, the company welcomes conductor and pianist Donald Lee III as its new Music Director. Lee has appeared in concert with the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, and members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
He holds degrees from James Madison University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and was the inaugural conductor/pianist member of the Ryan Opera Center, the training program of the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Darel Snodgrass spoke with Opera Memphis General Director Ned Canty and Lee about the upcoming season, Lee’s experience and musical journey, and what lies ahead for him and Opera Memphis.
